PPAC and TCP Group sign MoU on IP protection

On May 14, 2020, the China Patent Protection Association (PPAC) and TCP Group signed an MoU on intellectual property (IP) protection cooperation, with the aim of encouraging the two sides to integrate their resources and strengthen cooperation on IP. The agreement signals that both sides have stepped up into a new phase focused even more on ensuring IPR protection.

In 1993, Mr. Chaleo established the first Red Bull factory in Hainan, the Yoovidhya family’s ancestral homeland, and named Red Bull “Hong Niu” in Chinese, marking the first time that the Red Bull brand entered and became well-known in the Chinese market.  Throughout its business development, TCP Group has prioritized a business environment that value IP protection in order to maintain its competitiveness.

Mr. Ma Weiye, Secretary General of the China Intellectual Property Research Institute, said, “The MoU confirms that the two sides will establish regular cooperation and jointly set up an IP fund to fully leverage both parties’ key resources. This will aim to improve awareness of the importance of IP protection, promote a positive environment that respects and protects IP rights in daily consumption, support market entities whose IP has suffered infringements, and jointly expand both sides’ influence in the field of IP protection.” Ma emphasize, “The two parties are committed to building a positive environment for IP protection through various public and promotional activities, such as IP training, IP protection and operation research, and international exchange programs. “

Mr. Saravoot Yoovidhya, Chief Executive Officer of TCP Group, said, “As the inventors and owners of Red Bull, TCP has always been guided by the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. In the future, TCP Group and PPAC will jointly promote and deepen cooperation and exchanges in the field of IP protection, and fully support the Chinese government's strategic agenda on strengthening IPR protection, encouraging innovation and creating an advanced business environment.”

This is the first MoU signed by the PPAC with a company which is focused on IP protection. Marking an important new step in China’s non-governmental IP protection, the alliance will help to further strengthen IP awareness throughout society and foster an even better business environment in China.
